About Jason

I'm a writerpodcaster, semi-retired ultrarunnerrecreational pro MMA fighter, occasional teacher, and running coach living in the San Diego area. My goal in life is to seek out interesting adventures, push boundaries, and help others do the same.

Specific to the San Diego Man Camp project, I am a recovering beta male that realized it was a shitty way to go through life. My story can be found here and here. Once I started making positive changes in my life, I realized the process of becoming a more masculine, "alpha" version of myself was pretty simple. As a professional educator, I jumped at the opportunity to help others on this same journey.

I'm a serial hobbyist with a wide range of interests which has led to a series of weird adventures such as spending two years traveling the United States in an RV with my wife Shelly and our three children, running a 54 mile race without shoes, publishing six books, and (probably) becoming the first person to finish a 100 mile foot race and win a professional mixed martial arts fight.

I maintain a variety of blogs including:
Find me on FacebookTwitter, and LinkedIn. I rarely use the latter two, however.

  1. I am in harmony with your outlook on sex and relationships, Jason. I happen to be gay, however, and I would LOVE to have something like the San Diego Man Camp for gay men, if only because gay men have their own separate set of pathologies. For most gay men, getting laid is not a problem, for example, but the result is often rampant sex addiction, with no one guy ever being "enough." Plus, more than a few guys I know are painfully fixated, either sexually and/or romantically on unattainable straight guys -- this is a much larger problem than the self-appointed leaders in the gay community want to admit. Finally, a great many gay men, in my observation, go through life as victims -- not victims of homophobia, but victims of life in general, letting others walk all over them, and never developing any leadership skills.
